Qualcomm Confirms Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 as Its Next Flagship Chip

Qualcomm officially announced this morning that its next flagship mobile processor will be called Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. Full details will be revealed later this month at the company’s annual Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii — an event where select members of the press are flown out on Qualcomm’s dime, enjoy the sunshine, and occasionally forget to be overly critical.

The name isn’t particularly mysterious — “Gen 5” simply means it’s the fifth generation of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 platform. The branding might not blow your mind, but the chip itself will almost certainly power next year’s Galaxy flagships, the upcoming OnePlus devices, and plenty of other Android heavy-hitters. Notably, Google’s Pixel 11 will stick with its own custom silicon.
