What Steps is Pakistan Taking After the U.S. Tariffs? Commerce Minister Reveals

Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan has stated that Pakistan’s teams and diplomats are in contact with the White House regarding the issue of U.S. tariffs, to effectively convey the country’s concerns to the authorities.

Federal Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan chaired an important meeting with exporters from various export sectors in light of concerns arising from U.S. tariff policies.

Representatives from the textile, garments, leather, surgical instruments, services, fruits and vegetables, rice, footwear, and other export industries participated in the meeting.

The commerce minister said that Pakistan’s trade teams and diplomats based in the U.S. are in constant contact with the relevant authorities to ensure Pakistan’s concerns are communicated effectively.

Following the U.S. government’s imposition of a 29% tariff on Pakistani exports, Jam Kamal chaired a key meeting.

The meeting emphasized the need for national-level coordination to tackle global trade challenges.

Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan highlighted the active role of the Ministry of Commerce and said that the government is working on a comprehensive strategy to improve trade relations with the U.S., aiming for mutually beneficial outcomes.

He also stressed that the private sector will play a central role in shaping this strategy.

The commerce minister invited suggestions and recommendations from exporters to formulate a strong and practical policy. The private sector appreciated the government’s timely and proactive efforts under the minister’s leadership and praised the government’s commitment to involving stakeholders in the consultation process.
